As we are progressing along, the tank is really starting to take shape. We have been manufacturing our brackets as well as completing the laser cutting for our acrylic base plate. As added excitement, we received our treads which is a relief since that is a huge part of our machine. Unfortunately, while fitting the treads into the slots of the base plate, we noticed a couple things. First off, the thickness of the actual tread is wider than expected creating a problem with the clearance in the front and back of the tread. This will be fixed by adjusting some holes and moving them a little closer together. Secondly, the treads are also a bit short so with a quick phone call to the production company, our Hero and beloved captain Branton Dennis was able to squeeze out two free links to add to the treads!
Below you will see a picture of a very preliminary mock up of how our treads will be mounted, but it gives you an idea!
As they appear, these treads are both durable and have a high coefficient of friction. These were two worries we had during the research and purchase, but two our delight they look/feel/work fantastic!
